Georgetown University is a private research university located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It was established in 1789 by Bishop John Carroll as Georgetown College and is the oldest Roman Catholic institution of higher education in the United States. The university consists of eleven schools offering undergraduate and graduate programs. Its main campus is situated on a hill overlooking the Potomac River and is easily recognizable by the iconic Healy Hall, which is a designated National Historic Landmark. Student Association: The Georgetown University Student Association is the organization that represents the student government for undergraduate students. University Media: Georgetown University has a few student-led newspapers and academic journals. The Hoya, the university's oldest newspaper, has been in print since 1920. Since 1987, it has been published twice a week.
