The University of Sheffield (UK) is Inviting Students to the MSc Human and Molecular Genetics course in 2024
The University of Sheffield, one of the leading public research universities in Sheffield, England is inviting international medical aspirants to study well-structured MSc Human and Molecular Genetics courses, going to start from September 2024. This course will be a great opportunity for students to explore the wide range of implications of genetics in various fields including stem cells, genomics, cancer biology and human fertility.
According to the university's press release, the program Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service was structured in collaboration with the NHS (National Health Service) of the United Kingdom for students who want to make their career in medical genetics.
Course Description
Designed in collaboration with the NHS: Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service, this course provides a great opportunity to study in the UK and gain hands-on practical and theoretical skills in medical genetics. Students will explore human genetics to understand how human genetic diseases are diagnosed at DNA and chromosome levels. The course will train students in modern laboratory techniques such as molecular cloning, DNA sequence analysis, SDS-PAGE, CRISPR genome editing, PCR and western blotting.
During the program, students will spend up to 6 months undertaking extensive training in modern laboratory techniques like microscopy, human cell culture, qPCR, cytogenetics and employment in human genetic diseases.

NHS Placements
The course offers students to participate in NHS placements via the collaboration of the University of Sheffield with the Julia Garnham Centre which is based in the School of Biosciences. After completing the educational program and initial training, students will be placed to work under the supervision of NHS Geneticists from the Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.
Fee Structure:
International students must pay an annual fee of £29,700 (INR 30,05,145) per year.
Eligibility Criteria:
Students who want to pursue an MSc Human and Molecular Genetics course at the University of Sheffield have to meet the following eligibility criteria:
- The students must have completed a three to four-year bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or related subjects like genetics, biochemistry, microbiology or biotechnology.
- The students must have a minimum of 60% or "first class" in the bachelor program.
- The students must have an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0.
Scholarship:
Students can take advantage of the International Postgraduate Taught Merit Scholarships 2024. Each scholarship is worth approximately £5,000 ( INR 5,05,877) towards the original tuition fee for an MSc Human and Molecular Genetics program in 2024.
