Campuses life
Universidade do Porto has 3 campuses spread across the city of Porto. These Campuses are the City Centre Campus, Asprela Campus and Campo Alegre Campus. These campuses consist of many research and development centres, sports facilities, student residences and facilities.
The City Centre: This campus is a neoclassical building by architect Carlos Amarante that is recognized as the birthplace of the university.
Asprela Campus: This campus is located at the northern end of Porto.
Campo Alegre: This campus is located in the western part of the city, near the city campus, over the river Douro bank.
There are a number of other centres and institutes spread over the city of Porto.
Hostel and Facilities
Hall of residence: The accommodations in the hall of residence are spread across Universidade do Porto in their three main campuses. The Social Support Services of the University of Porto (SASUP) runs the residences of the university. The halls of residence provide accommodation to the Master’s, Bachelors and Integrated Master’s degree students who have to live far from their families for their education. The allowance of residence depends on the transport issues, distance from the home and socioeconomic condition of the students. The students who have educational scholarships are prioritised for the allocation of the halls. Research and doctoral students also allocate a place where they get a comfortable environment for their studies and work.
The hall of residence within the university has single or double rooms, bedrooms with double beds, and private and shared bathrooms.
Private Residence Accommodation: In recent years, Universidade do Porto is continuously working on providing private halls of residence to students. The private halls also offer additional services like water, light, heating bills and cleaning are also included in the rent of the residence.
Apartments: There is a lot of accommodation for rent available in the city of Porto. Students can live in shared apartments with other students.
Research and Development
The research and development activities at Universidade do Porto are significantly expanding over the years which is the result of their academic qualifications, the concession of research grants and increased funding of research and development centres. As a research university, the U.Porto is one of the leading producers of science in the country of Portugal, including all areas of knowledge. It results from the enthusiastic efforts of the R & D Units (UI) of the university. The university actively participates in the Collaborative laboratories, Associated Laboratories and National Roadmap for Research infrastructures.
